John 6:1-21, Bread and Fish (Klein)

Kyle and Kelly listened to the story their grandfather told and wondered how Jesus did that miracle. Even Grandmother, who made two small fish feed four people couldn’t have stretched the food to feed five thousand! The Holy Bible doesn’t tell us how Jesus fed so many people, but it helps us to remember that Jesus is the son of God. He can do many things that ordinary people can’t do.

God’s Generosity

We see God's generosity everywhere in nature. How many fish do you think are in the oceans and how many stars in the sky? Have you ever tried to count all the seeds from one dandelion plant? There are many! This is an example of God's generosity. The same is true for flowers and vegetable plants. They don't produce just one seed, but more than is necessary, more than enough.

John 4:5-42 Jesus Breaks the Rules (Miller)

Jesus is breaking the rules. He is talking with her. He asks her for a drink of water. If you were that woman, and Jesus started talking to you, what would you say to him? [Thank the children for their answers]. She says that people like him don’t speak to people like her. She doesn’t understand why he is talking to her. That’s when Jesus says something very strange to her and she doesn’t get it––she doesn’t understand at all.

John 4:5-42, The Living Water of God’s Love (Wuori)

Wouldn’t it be great if we never got thirsty? What if there was special water that we could drink once and it would took care of us forever? Well in this week’s Gospel story, Jesus is taking a long walk – and guess what happens? He gets thirsty. So he stops by a well and asks a woman there if she will help him get a drink. And while they’re talking he tells her about how God’s love is sort of like water.
