John 21:1-19 God’s Guidance (Edstrom)

What do you think we can learn from this story? Yes, the story teaches us that Jesus has God-given power and knowledge. He saw and knew things his disciples did not. It is good to learn all we can about how to do something that is new to us. It is also good to remember that we don't have all the answers. When we study the Bible and pray, we must also listen for God's guidance.

John 21:1-19 Prove It (Edstrom)

Jesus said, "Feed my lambs" (21:15). "Tend my sheep" (21:16). "Feed my sheep" (21:17). This may sound like an unusual answer, but what Jesus meant was that if you love me there is a way you can prove it. Jesus compared how one would take care of sheep with how we care for each other. We feed and care for each other with God's love. So, the way we can prove our love for God is by giving backhis love to others. When we accept God's love and add it to our lives, then give it away to others, we prove our love for him.

John 21:1-19 It’s Time to Follow (Miller)

Then Jesus asked Peter a question––and he asked him the same question three times. The question Jesus asked Peter was: “Do you love me?” I think Jesus meant “Do you love the God I’ve showed you; do you love the things you’ve done when I was leading you?” Peter said Yes, and yes again, and three times yes! Then Jesus said,“Then let’s get going! We have things to do!” (Or something like that). Jesus wasn’t mad at Peter for betraying him. He wanted Peter to come with him! Jesus forgave Peter. Now Peter and all the Disciples knew what to do. It was time to follow Jesus!

John 20:19-31 Doubting Thomas (Miller)

Jesus said, “Thomas, you believe because you saw. But there will be lots of people [like us] who never get to see me but they will believe any way. That’s a good thing.” We never see lots of important things. We don’t see the wind, we don’t see love, but we feel them; we know they are there. Even though we don’t see Jesus and we don’t see God, we know they are with us; we know they love us. Don’t be like Doubting Thomas. Trust God’s love and God’s power. We don’t need to see God’s love. We know it is there!
