We are so blessed, each one of us, to have special gifts we can share with others. Just think of your own talents and the talents of those around you. There are so many different ways to serve others.

The Bible teaches us that some have the gift of wisdom and others the gift of knowledge. These gifts have to do with getting a good education and being able to make wise choices.

Others have the gift of faith – a strong belief in the power and love of God. Still others have the gift of healing. Add to this our gifts of music and art and strong sports skills. The list goes on and on.

In the Bible the Apostle Paul says, “Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit” (12:4). We are each given different gifts, but all of our gifts come from the same source and that source is God.

Think of it in the way you think of bees – marvelous bees! They each have work to do to keep the hive buzzing. The worker bees have many different jobs. Some build the honey comb, some tend to the needs of the queen bee, some take care of the young bees, some clean the hive and others guard the hive. Older bees go outside the hive to gather flower nectar, pollen, and water.

All the bees work together to take care of the hive. We could say that even the bees have special talents and gifts that come from God. They work together for the same purpose and because of that, what do they produce?

Yes, honey. Such a sweet, wonderful gift. Just think of how good honey tastes on cornbread or warm biscuits or your morning cereal.

We could think of ourselves as worker bees. When we work together in God’s Spirit we have the opportunity to share God’s love with others in our world and this gift is as sweet as any honey.
