Kids have been playing with wooden building blocks for hundreds of years. Blocks are one of my favorite toys because you can be so creative when you play with them. You may choose to build houses, castles, towers, churches, skyscrapers, bridges, or tunnels.

What’s one of the most important things you must think about when you begin to build something with blocks? Yes, smart kids! You must have a good foundation. Think what would happen if you tried to build your project on a soft bed or couch. The least movement and your structure will fall down.

After you find a solid surface, like the floor or a table, you need to place the blocks in a way that creates a strong foundation. You must lay the blocks so that they will support the other blocks you place on top, otherwise they will fall. This is something you learn to do as you experiment and play with building blocks.

You may have seen houses, skyscrapers, or bridges being built in your city or town. Engineers are people who take measurements, test the soil and draw plans to make sure there is a strong foundation under those structures. Foundations are one of the most important parts of any building project.

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul speaks to new Christians and teaches them that they must have a good foundation. He says, “For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ” (3:11).

As we grow and build our lives we need something solid to build on. Learning about the love and wisdom of Jesus is a strong foundation for our lives. His gift of love will not fall or fail. It is always there, holding us up and helping us make good choices.
