The Joy of Creation

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Objects suggested: Art objects or other things that have been created by persons in the congregation.

Why do you think God cares so much about us? We make mistakes and get into trouble. Sometimes we say and do mean things. We hurt others. We cry and pout. At times we are not very loveable, so why do you think God loves us?

We are God’s creations. We believe he created the world and all that is in it. He created us and gives us life. Maybe this has something to do with God’s great love for us.

Think about something you made that has given you great joy. Will you share with us what that might be?

Your creation may be a beautiful art project. You are proud of how well it turned out. It deserves to be hung in a place of honor and protected so it will not be damaged.

If you are a scout your creation may be a soapbox derby car that you made from scratch. Remember how you cheered for your car as it raced down the track – how you hoped it would win?

Maybe you like to bake and create tasty cakes, cookies, and pies. Do you place your desserts on a lovely plate and feel happy when others enjoy your creations.

We love our creations because those creations are a part of us – they come from our hands, and hearts, and minds.

God created us. We come from Him and He is in us. The Bible teaches us that “we are all from one” (2:11). You are God’s creation and you are loved.
