Philippians 1:3-11

More than Enough

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Suggestions: Pictures of beautiful nature scenes. If appropriate to your situation, enjoy cocoa together.

Imagine that it’s a cold winter day and you are feeling chilly. Your mother heats cocoa on the stove and then pours some into a cup. She fills the cup right up to the top and then continues to pour. What happens? Yes, the cocoa flows right over the top of the cup and onto the saucer. You could say, “Stop, Mom. That’s more than enough, more than I need.

Would you every say those things about love? I don’t think so. We all need a lot of love and can never have too much. When we are filled with love, it overflows to others.

In the Bible the Apostle Paul talks about this very thing. He wrote a letter to his Christian friends and this is what he said: “This is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best…”

What a wonderful prayer. Paul wants his friends to feel so much love that it overflows. When you experience love that overflows, you understand more about God, more about yourself and others. When you love and feel loved, you are able to make good decisions and figure out “what is best.”

We believe that love comes from God. God is generous and we see signs of his love all around us. Just think about the beautiful things found in nature and of the all the people who care for us.

When we receive God’s love it is more than enough. It overflows so that we feel loved, are able to make good choices and share that love with others.
