Psalm 118
Morning Song

By Lois Parker Edstrom

A healthy breakfast is a good way to start the day. There are so many choices: yogurt topped with berries; a fruit smoothie; raisins and walnuts stirred into a steaming bowl of oatmeal; eggs with toast and marmalade; an apple and cheese; pancakes; French toast. Do you have a favorite breakfast food?

A good breakfast gives you energy. You start the day feeling peppy and ready for the day’s adventures.

Another excellent way to start each day is to memorize and think about this Bible verse: “This is the day that Yahweh (God) has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it” (118:24)! The word “rejoice” means to feel joy and delight.

Each morning, when we wake up, we have a choice about how we want to greet the day. We can be grumpy or we can think about all that God has made, all the beautiful things in our world, and feel joy. You get to decide.

A writer in the Bible says this: God “is my strength and song” (118:14).
