Enough for All

Fragrance is a pleasant scent that brings us pleasure. What are some of the things that smell good to you? Bread or cookies baking in the oven. The salty smell of the ocean. Bath soap. Fresh mown grass. Steak grilling on the barbeque. Lilacs, lavender, or roses from the garden. I’ll pass this rose around so everyone has an opportunity to enjoy its fragrance. (If a rose is used, wrap the stem so thorns are not a problem.)
As each child in this group breathes in its scent, is the rose’s fragrance becoming less and less? Is the rose’s fragrance being used up? No, even if all the people in our church today smelled the rose and enjoyed its scent, the fragrance would not go away. The rose keeps giving off its lovely fragrance, no matter how many people smell it.
We can think about the gift of God’s love in the same way. God is love and his love is offered to everyone. His love does not become less as more people share it. The Bible tells us that “the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him” (10:12). “For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved” (10:13).
Each one of us can enjoy God’s love and share it with others. There will always be enough for all.
