DAVID MICHAEL CANADA, a native of Charlotte County Virginia, was born on July 22, 1946. He attended Ferrum College; North Carolina Wesleyan College (Bachelor of Arts in Religion, 1969); Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Master of Divinity, 1971); and Wesley Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry, 1996). He completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the Georgia Association for Pastoral Care, University of Virginia Medical Center, Medical College of Virginia, Fort Carson CPE Center, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

He served pastoral appointments in both the North Carolina and Virginia Annual Conferences of the United Methodist Church, and is currently a retired member of the Virginia Annual Conference.

He is also a retired Army Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel), having served a total of 24 years. His military assignments included Fort Carson, Colorado; Augsburg, Germany, Fort NcNair and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.; Yongsan, South Korea; and William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas.

David is a member of the Virginia Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Circuit Rider, a magazine that goes to all United Methodist clergy in America. He is the author of Spiritual Leadership in the Small Membership Church.

David’s priorities are clergy healing and wellness, Biblical studies, and spiritual formation. His interests include playing the drums, reading, baseball, listening to good music, and people. His awards include the Legion of Merit and Honorary Membership in the United States Army Medical Department Regiment. He lives in Chesterfield, Virginia.
