Matthew 9:35-38 Workers Are Few (Klein)

Jesus told his disciples, "The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few" (vs. 37). Kelly didn't understand about the harvest, but Kyle remembered his teacher explaining that harvest time meant the crops were ready. Harvest is when the fruit is ripe and ready to pick. It's the time when farmers dig potatoes or cut and store the wheat.

Mending Our Ways

There is a story told about a group of pioneer women who lived in the Oregon Territory. Among them they had only one needle. There was no way for them to buy another needle, so they took turns using that single needle. One woman would sew on buttons and mend her family's clothes and then she passed the needle on to the next woman who had mending to do.

God’s New Apostles

Some jobs are so big that nobody could possibly do them alone. At times like that you need to have a team, don't you? That's exactly the problem in today's Gospel story. As Jesus goes out spreading God's word he notices that there are tons of people who need his help. So, guess what he does? He begins a team!

Matthew 6:25-33 Jason and Kimmy (Miller)

On the way home from church, Kimmy said that she had been thinking that it was time to go through her closet and her dresser and take out the things she didn't wear very much. She asked her mom if she could help her take the clothes to their church's clothing donation room. "I know there are kids who don't have nice clothes".

Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 What We Need (Edstrom)

Jesus spoke about giving people what they need. Some criticized him because they saw him having dinner with "sinners," people who had made mistakes and bad choices. He told them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do" (9:12). Jesus used this example to teach that those who are sick need a doctor more than those who are well. He explains that those who have not heard about the love of God need to hear about it more than those who have already accepted God's love.

Have Mercy

When you are expecting punishment and your parent or teacher helps you understand that what you did was wrong and then teaches you how to make better choices - that's called mercy. Mercy is receiving kindness when you don't deserve it.
