James 5:13-20 Pray for One Another

You can pray any time. If you happen to wake in the middle of the night and don’t go right back to sleep, think of the people for whom you can pray and do so. During the day when you think of someone you haven’t seen for a while, pray for that person. We can pray for people we don’t even know. When I hear a siren or see an ambulance go down the road, I pray for the person in that ambulance who may be sick or hurt.

James 5:7-10 Patience!

There are times when we need to speak up and make changes and there are other times when we need to be patient. When you get restless or are tempted to complain, remember that learning how to be patient is part of becoming more grown up. It feels great to realize you are a calm person who knows how to wait for good things to happen. Congratulate yourself for learning this skill!

James 3:13 – 4:3 Show Your Good Life

You must be very gentle when you play with bubbles. To form a bubble without causing it to pop you need to blow with just the right amount of force. If you blow too hard the bubble will break. The Bible teaches us that being gentle is a good thing. Listen to this Bible verse: "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom" (3:13).

James 3:1-12 A Blessing or a Curse

We can use our tongue to praise God or curse God. Listen to this Bible verse: "Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so" (3:10). Think about the words that come out of your mouth. Choose words that honor others and honor God. Make your words a blessing!

Let's make of list of things that go together: (Encourage the children's participation.) • Ham and eggs • Peanut butter and jelly • Pencils and paper • Sunshine and a picnic. The reason these things belong together is that one makes the other better and when you have both you have the best combination.

James 1:17-27 Managing Anger

We've all felt angry. It is normal and natural and there are times when we must act on our anger to protect ourselves or another person. However what the Bible teaches, and what we must understand, is how to become "slow to anger." We must learn not to act so fast. Take time to stop and think about what happened to cause this feeling. What really caused you to feel so angry? What do you want to do about it? You have many choices, you know.
