This word "devoted" means that a person cares enough to give up certain things in order to work at what's important. What we do tells others a lot about who we are. Think about what's important to you. Each one of us gets to choose our work – what we will do that makes a difference.
Mary was showing Jesus that he was more important to her than anything; Knowing Jesus was the most important thing that had ever happened to her; more important than all the money in the world. Jesus said that what Mary had done would be told for years and years. And it is still being told! Mary understood how important Jesus is!
We all become aware of God in different ways. For some it is as if you have known God all of your life. You might just have an inner knowing––God's Spirit that speaks the truth to you. Or you may have been taught of God's love by your parents when you were a small child. Some find God when they let in the beauty of nature and the amazing way everything works together – from our solar system to the tiniest bug. For others coming to God is a gradual thing that occurs in quiet ways.
It is easy and perhaps natural to think of ourselves and what we want, but it is God's love at work when we think of others and how we can make their lives a little better. Never grow tired of showing kindness to others. You will be amazed at how your life will blossom and grow!

The Bible teaches us that when we accept God's love, which came to us through Jesus, we are adopted into God's family. We are chosen by God to receive his love and become his children. This is cause for celebration. How wonderful to know we are loved and cherished by God just as an adopted child is loved and cherished. We should celebrate each day, and perhaps even have a party, to celebrate our adoption into God's family.
We need rules, don't we? It wouldn't be much fun to play a game of Candyland, or Old Maid, or Scrabble, or Tic Tac Toe, or Monopoly if we didn't know the rules. Everyone would do their own thing, and there would be no game. Because your parents love you, they provide you with rules to help you learn how to be happy and successful.
